Situated on the Lake Nona Golf Course, the home (by Akers Custom Homes) is a staggering 11,000 square feet with an additional separate movie theater, self-contained guest quarters, three-car carpeted garage, and a resort-like pool and spa area that comprises another 8,200 square feet. The incredible size is paralleled by the “wow factor” inspired by amazing hand craftsmanship together with the inclusion of imported architectural pieces from all over the world.
The authentic, hand-carved 10-foot entry door sets the tone for what lies within. Three-hundred-year-old columns reclaimed from a Moroccan palace define the rotunda, which is tiled with a custom mosaic design, created with more than 1,300 hand-cut pieces of Saltillo tile. Above it hangs a 7-foot by 7-foot hand-forged, iron chandelier hand crafted in Mexico. Every feature and detail in the home is either an authentic piece of history or hand crafted and made to look old. Much of the design scheme was fashioned around pieces of a dismantled Moroccan castle that Mitch had acquired years earlier. Intricately carved wooden doors and time-worn, beautifully detailed cabinetry and architectural moldings adorn the many spaces.
